To participate in the experiment you must agree to abide by the licence agreement.

Technical Requirements
Please read the technical requirements page before downloading and installing the package. The climateprediction.net software is quite demanding on your PC. Laptops, especially, can easily overheat if they are performing intense operations over a long period, and machines that do not have enough RAM can experience problems as they need to continuously write to disk. We don't want to cause disk crashes, so please take careful note of the technical requirements. If your machine is under the minimum specification, we recommend that you do not install the software.

How long will it take?
This depends on how fast your machine is and how often you switch it off. A 1.4 GHz machine will take about 6 weeks if it is left running all the time. An 800MHz machine will take almost take twice as long. A 2.8GHz machine will take under 4 weeks. We recommend that you do not download the software if you only have your computer switched on for a couple of hours a week.
If installed as a service, the application runs even while you are logged off.

Do I need to be on-line all the time while the software runs?
Absolutely not. Once you have installed the software and registered with the project, you are free to disconnect from the internet.

Can I uninstall the software?
If you decide you want to stop running the software at some point there is an uninstall option that you can find via your 'Start -> All programs' menu of your Windows system. We are grateful for any amount of time/energy you are willing to invest into this exciting project. However, please try to finish your experiment once you downloaded it - do not download the package just to see what it looks like. This constraint is necessary to preserve the scientific validity of the project as partially completed experiments cannot be passed on or evaluated.

How many experiments does the software do?
As many as you let it. The software runs a model which simulates three fifteen year periods, and then returns a small set of data from the completed model run to us. It then starts another, different model run. It goes around this loop as many times as you allow it.

Problem with web proxies?

Firewall Configuration
Note that if you have a firewall you should allow "client interface.exe" (our GUI front-end for the model) to communicate on ports 80 and 443 (the basic HTTP/S ports). All communication to our servers is initiated by our software in a similar way to a web browser -- there are no open ports on your computer using this software!
